OVERVIEW: The Tp 62 is a heavyweight, wire-guided torpedo developed by Sweden for submarine launch against both surface ships and submarines. It entered service in the early 2000s and features deep-operating capability and advanced homing.

DETAILS: “Tp” stands for Torped, and the “62” model was developed to replace the older Tp 613, with deliveries beginning in 2001. The Tp 62 is 5.99 m long, 533 mm in diameter, and weighs approximately 1,400 kg. It uses pump-jet propulsion powered by kerosene and high-test peroxide, enabling speeds over 55 kn and ranges greater than 40 km. The torpedo operates to depths beyond 500 m, is wire-guided during the mid-course, and transitions to active/passive acoustic homing with onboard signal processing for target classification. It is compatible with Swedish submarines and is also exported under the name “Torpedo 2000”.

TYPE: Heavyweight Wire-Guided Anti-Submarine and Anti-Surface Torpedo

FUNCTION: Launched from 533 mm submarine tubes, the Tp 62 uses wire guidance during its mid-course phase to receive targeting updates. It activates advanced acoustic homing in the terminal stage to engage submerged or surface targets with high precision.
